SENATOR ROSS’ STATEMENT ON RECENTLY RELEASED CONFERENCE COMMITTEE REPORT

Boston-  State Senator Richard Ross released the following statement upon the conclusion of the expanded gaming conference committee.

As I have stressed from day one of the expanded gaming debate, I would support and fight for a comprehensive gaming bill which not only provided immediate revenue to the Commonwealth but one which maintains and creates jobs. While the process which resulted in a bill including slots at the racetracks was by no means perfect, both sides during the 11th hour were able to reach an agreement, saving thousands of jobs. For me this issue has always been about preserving jobs and making sure families who have a vested stake in Massachusetts not be forgotten for outside interests. It is imperative as this bill moves forward that everyone, including Governor Patrick, not turn their backs on the livelihood and well being of so many of our constituents whose lives depend on working at the race tracks. For some, the expanded gaming bill means revenue, but for the thousands of workers in my district this bill means guaranteeing their futures.
